Finding the most suitable candidate for a given role can be tricky. Recruiting multiple candidates for several roles? That comes with its own unique set of challenges.
KLC's own Stephanie Banks Smith has years of experience helping businesses restructure or fill several integral roles for major projects. We sat down to talk to her about why organisations need a professional bulk recruitment strategy when they restructure or take on a major project.
Getting to know KLC's Stephanie Banks Smith
Stephanie Banks Smith joined the KLC team last year after returning from a year-long maternity leave.
Before that, she was working as an Internal Recruitment Consultant for a financial services organisation as part of the HR team there.
"I was an internal recruiter with my own portfolio to manage alongside an HR manager," explains Stephanie.
A key part of her role? You guessed it – bulk recruitment.
"I did a lot of internal bulk recruitment here. Prior to that, I was an HR recruiter for a transport company and once again, I was doing a lot of bulk and specialist recruitment for various roles."
"In large part, I got involved in bulk recruitment because of the industry. When I was in financial services, I was working with a company of 1,500 employees. The call centre in particular needed teams of people, so that became a big part of my job – getting those five to 10 people on the phones the same day."
Stephanie comes to KLC with 10 years industry experience.

The nuances of bulk recruitment
Bulk recruitment isn't limited to restructures or large projects. Many industries will at one time or another need to do large volumes of hiring. Take the retail sector, for example, which always needs to increase staff during the holiday season.
This is evidenced in the variety of clients we assist with bulk recruitment at KLC.
"Currently," explains Stephanie, "I'm working on two very different projects. One is a campaign for phone-based counsellors and the other is for a large education institute seeking exam invigilators."
Naturally, such different clients will require very different strategies.
As Stephanie puts it, "A strategy starts with getting to know the client's needs. A consultancy team will go and meet on site with the client, discuss what they're after in terms of fit and position, examine the structure, look at what's worked in the past and what hasn't for each role. We ask ourselves, 'what's the need for these roles?', and then use our expertise to tailor our approach."
3 benefits of using a professional recruitment company
So, why should you hire a professional recruitment company to tailor your strategy rather than go it alone?
According to Stephanie, hiring a professional recruitment company like KLC has several key benefits, including:
1. Less work for your internal team
From advertising to screening applicants, arranging interviews and checking references, a lot of work goes into hiring candidates – as well as weeding out the ones who aren't suitable.
Multiply that by 10 – or however many roles you're looking to fill – and you have hours of work on your hands.
Fortunately, professional recruiters can help by taking all of those tasks off your internal team.
2. More people power and resources
"We have the people power and the resources," says Stephanie. "Some internal teams don't have the capacity or specialist skills for recruitment. We have those resources to get the ball rolling and see through the entire process from start to finish."
3. Better qualified candidates
With KLC Recruitment, you can be sure that the candidates who make it to you are, in fact, extremely well qualified. That's because we:
- Know our clients,
- Understand the roles on offer,
- Advertise tactically,
- Screen candidates extensively,
- Have extensive experience.
"We qualify candidates, speaking to them in great deal about the opportunity," says Stephanie. "Ultimately, it's still the client's decision, but we work in conjunction, offering advice and expertise from a different perspective."
